The Herschel telescope has unveiled this dark cloud 1000 light-years away in constellation Aquila. Herschel's unparalleled vision deep in the infrared has shown an estimated 100 "proto-stars" just about to light up with fusion, and a further 600 that, in time, will join them in this stellar nursery.
